Unlike factory-produced soaps that are made in large quantities, handmade soaps are crafted in small batches with careful attention to ingredients, formulation, and quality. Custom soaps take this one step further by allowing a soap maker to create a product inspired by specific ingredients, fragrances, colors, or customer preferences.

At Seven Botanics, we believe that every handcrafted product tells a story. Recently, we created a sample custom soap batch inspired by three simple ingredients: Apple, Beetroot, and Carrot. We call it our ABC Soap.

What Is Handmade Soap?

Handmade soap is soap that is created through a traditional soap-making process using oils, lye, and carefully selected ingredients. Each batch is mixed, poured, and cured with attention to detail rather than being mass-manufactured by industrial machinery.

Because handmade soap is produced in smaller quantities, soap makers can focus on craftsmanship and ingredient selection throughout the process.

What Is a Custom Soap?

A custom soap is a soap designed around a specific idea, ingredient combination, fragrance, or customer requirement.

For example, a customer may request:

  • A soap inspired by botanical ingredients
  • A specific fragrance blend
  • A unique color combination
  • Special event or gift soaps
  • Small-batch artisan soaps

Custom soaps allow customers to be part of the creative process and receive something unique rather than choosing only from ready-made products.

Introducing Our ABC Soap

As part of our exploration into custom soap possibilities, we created an ABC Soap sample batch inspired by:

  1. Apple
  2. Beetroot
  3. Carrot

The ingredients were carefully shade-dried and transformed into a fine powder blend before being incorporated into the soap-making process.

To create the soap base, we combined:

  1. Coconut Oil
  2. Sesame Oil
  3. Shea Butter
  4. Castor Oil

Once the oils were blended, the ABC powder was added. We then continued the soap-making process and included a refreshing fragrance blend featuring Lemongrass and Tea Tree.

Finally, the soap was hand-poured into moulds and left to begin its curing journey.

Why Does Handmade Soap Need a 45-Day Cure?

One of the most important stages in traditional soap making is curing.

After the soap is poured into molds and removed from the mould, it requires time to mature. During this curing period, excess moisture gradually evaporates, helping create a harder and longer-lasting soap bar.

For our ABC Soap batch, we allow approximately 45 days of curing before the soap is considered ready.

Patience is an essential part of handcrafted soap making, and the curing stage is just as important as the mixing and pouring process.
